Tim Tebow has the city of Denver hyped up about the upcoming year, but the question remains, do these teams deserve the hype?

There are certain occasions when these particular teams don’t deserve all the attention and must be placed on the media shelf to focus on the teams that deserve it.

Baltimore Ravens

The hype is right on: The Ravens acquired Anqun Boldin in the off season and filled a void that

has always haunted this team. With a top-notch running back  like Ray Rice to help open up the passing game, this offense is ready to produce.

The defense is led by the aggressiveness of Ray Lewis and it still brings a ferocious reputation to every game.

Don’t believe the hype: The Ravens are listed as heavy favorites to win the AFC North yet they were swept by the Bengals last year.

The defense is getting older and Ed Reed looks like he will start the year on the PUP list.

Joe Flacco has to prove he can do more than just hand  the ball off, and hit his targets in the air when he needs to.

Atlanta Falcons

The hype is right on: Matt Ryan has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league and put up MVP numbers.This Falcons offense can keep up with some of the best in the league. It’s loaded with weapons at every key position from Michael Turner at running back, to Roddy White at wide receiver.

The offense is ready to take the Falcons to the next level right now.

Don’t believe the hype: Defense is the name of the game and the Falcons were one of the worst statistically last year. In the off season they picked up Corner back Dunta Robinson, but they still have holes to fill.

They also play in the same division as the defending super bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

Dallas Cowboys

The propaganda is right on: The Dallas Cowboys are one of those teams that seem to be hyped up every year. Bet Mania listed them as 10-1 to win the Super bowl making them one of the Front Runners to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. The Cowboys finally have a playmaker in Dez Bryant and are now well rounded on offense.

They are hosting the Super bowl and have all the motivation to play the super bowl in Dallas.

Don’t believe the buildup: What have they done lately? Before last year the Cowboys had struggled after December 1st and were man-handled in the playoffs by the Minnesota Vikings.

They still play in arguably the toughest division in football and Bryant may already be a cancer in the locker room.

New York Jets

The propaganda is right on: This team stunned the entire league by getting to the AFC Championship game. That late season run started up a hype machine, and now the Jets are a favorite to win the AFC East, although they finished in second place a year ago.

Rex Ryan has this team headed in the right direction and they are confident on the field of play.

If defense does indeed win ballgames, the Jets are worth all the hype they are getting.

Mark Sanchez looks like one of the best draft picks in recent history and the belief is the Jets are headed to the Super bowl.

Don’t believe the buildup: The team finished 9-7 and if not for the Colts sitting out their starters, it’s debatable if this team would even have made the playoffs.

The Jets added so many pieces in the off season it will be difficult to see if they have the chemistry to go back to the championship game.

If the Jets are going to make it to the Super bowl they would have to get by the Colts. They are listed at 10-1 to win the Super bowl but there are several reasons to not buy into the hype. Only time will tell if the Jets are deserving of all the attention they are getting.

Tim Tebow (Denver Broncos)

The Broncos are the team but let’s face it they might as well change their name to the Tim Tebows. He lived up to the hype in college but can he do it in the pros?

He is worth the hype because: He is Tim Tebow and everything that he touches turns into gold.

Denver may not play well but he will sell tickets and jerseys. He already has the top selling jersey in the NFL.

If the Broncos play badly the fans will still come to see Tebow execute his craft.

Don’t buy into the hype: The NFL is not college football. The game is much more challenging and there are still questions about Tebow’s throwing motion.

He is known to have solid leadership but he has to perform on the field to mesh with veteran teammates and be worth the hype.

The Chargers are still the favorite to win the AFC West so not everyone is believing the hype on the Broncos.

Every year teams get hype from the media and other sources but only time will tell if they are deserving of all the off season noise that they generate.

Last year, the New Orleans Saints made an incredible run on their way to winning the Superbowl. This was a surprise to some NFL fans because the year before that the Saints posted a mediocre record of 8-8. This was not the first time that a team with a second-rate record has gone to the Superbowl.

In fact in 2009 the Arizona Cardinals made it to the big game after finishing with a regular season record of 8-8, just one year earlier.  This actually happens more than you might imagine.

The Giants finished at 8-8 in the 2006 regular season and still punched the ticket to Superbowl XLII. In the 2004 regular season the Seattle Seahawks finished at 9-7 and the next year would play on the big stage in the Superbowl. In 2002, the Patriots (9-7) and the Panthers (7-9) had woeful records, but both would end up in the Super bowl just a year later. Tampa Bay finished at 9-7 in 2001, but still suited up for the big game the next year. Then in Superbowl XXXVI the New England Patriots won the championship after posting just five wins the season prior. The list goes on and on.

Armed with this knowledge there is no reason to believe that it cannot happen again this year.

Here are six teams that finished near, at, or below .500 and may surprise some teams and win Superbowl XLV.

San Francisco 49ers (2009 record: 8-8)

Odds to win the NFC: 15 to 1

Mike Singletary has fostered a winning atmosphere in San Francisco. It helps that they play in one of the weakest divisions in football. Alex Smith will finally play in offense for two years in a row and that should allow him to showcase his talents. He has plenty of weapons around him to include Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Frank Gore. The defense may not have many big names, but they play well as a unit. On a team that returns 20 of 22 players from a year ago, the Niners have a shot of going to the big game.

NY Jets (2009 record: 9-7)

Odds to win the AFC: 6.5 to 1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 14 to 1

Rex Ryan made a point of putting the New York Jets on the map and now many believe that they are Superbowl contenders. They managed to go all the way to the AFC Championship game a year ago and revamped the team in the off-season so they could compete again in 2010. I may not buy into the hype but if Mark Sanchez can prove he can lead this team to a win if the run gets shut down they could be Superbowl bound.

NY Giants (2009 record: 8-8)

Odds to win the NFC: 10 to 1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 25 to 1

The Giants have some stiff competition in the NFC East.How great would be if they play the big game in Dallas while their NFC East rivals, the Cowboys, sit and watch. That should be motivation enough for the Giants. Eli Manning can lead an offensive that should be vastly improved if they stay healthy. Perry Fewell takes over as defensive coordinator and if he can get this defense to play well the Giants have an outside shot.

Houston Texans (2009 record: 9-7)

Odds to win the AFC: 14 to 1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 32 to 1

There is another team in Texas that would like to play a Superbowl with a home field advantage. Houston’s biggest problem is that they cannot seem to beat the Colts. If they can shake that monkey off their back, they have the personnel to make a run at the Superbowl. Matt Schaub is off one of his best years and Andre Johnson is arguably the best wide receiver in football. If the defense steps up, Houston is a solid sleeper for the Superbowl. The toughest schedule in the league will either make or break this team.

Chicago Bears (2009 record: 7-9)

Odds to win the NFC: 14 to 1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 32 to 1

The Bears were a favorite to play in the Superbowl last year, but had an awful season. Jay Cutler looked more confused than confident, and was an interception machine. Enter Mike Martz as new offensive coordinator. Martz brings in a pass happy offense and can restore Cutler back to where he should be. The Bears were busy in the off season signing solid players to include defensive pass rusher, Julius Peppers.

Miami Dolphins (2009 record: 7-9)

Odds to win the AFC: 19 to 1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 40 to 1

Everyone knows that Miami can run. Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown form one of the best backfields in football. The Dolphins realize they have to support a passing threat to take it to the next level and signed Brandon Marshall. Chad Henne has all the skills to become a great quarterback in the NFL and now he has the weapons. Bill Parcells used the draft and the free agent period to bring in defensive keys that could change the season for the Dolphins.

History shows that a sleeper team has a very good chance of going to the Superbowl. This year what sleeper team will it be?

2009 Recap: The New Orleans Saints were the feel good story of the 2009 NFL season. They won 13 games and captured the NFC South title. With an electrifying offense and an opportunistic defense they scampered through the playoffs and brought the first Superbowl title ever to the city of New Orleans.

Now the challenge to repeat as champions begins.

Draft: The Saints deserve high praise for their draft picks considering they drafted 32^nd overall.

Most notable was the first round selection of cornerback Patrick Robinson out of Florida St. He is a quick reacting ball hawk that will play in packages immediately and enhance the Saints ability to cover one-on-one.

The selection of tight end Jimmy Graham out of Miami is a work in progress, considering he only played football in his senior year. He has amazing athleticism allowing him to fit right into the passing game and become a big target.

Offseason Key Moves

Overall the Saints had a successful offseason. They had several players that could have left as free agents, but the front office made sure to keep many of the key parts that led to a championship.

The Saints lost defensive end Charles Grant to free agency, but they proved that they could win without him when he missed several games due to injury. The team picked up Alex Brown after the Bears cut him, and he will be a quick pass rusher that should take over where Grant left off.

The key to the Saints offseason was bringing back Free Safety Darren Sharper in the secondary. He is a veteran leader on and off the field for the Saints defense. He is as important to the defense as quarterback Drew Brees is to the offense.

New Orleans Saints Offense

Can the Saints repeat as champs?

The Saints arguably had one of the best offenses in football led by one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Drew Brees put up astounding numbers last year on his way to winning a Superbowl championship and seemingly every award under the sun. He is the undisputed leader of this team and is a precise pocket passer that can perform under pressure. He makes other players on the team step up to another level and gets everyone involved on offense.

The wide receivers are not household names but in this offense they have all flourished. Marques Colston is becoming a solid go-to-guy, and posted another season of 1,000 yards or more in 2009. Devery Henderson has breakaway speed and is the best Saints receiver at running after the catch. Finally, Robert Meachem gives the Saints the deep threat they need to keep the underneath routes open.

The passing game is the staple of this offense and it makes up for a running game that needs to improve. Reggie Bush is a human highlight film on special teams and when he catches passes in the flats, but as a running back he struggles. Pierre Thomas is the dependable back for the Saints and will have to carry the load. As usual the Saints will look to pass to set up the run.

Sean Payton is an offensive mastermind and with Drew Brees at the helm, the offense will be dangerous again in 2010.

New Orleans Saints Defense

The other side of the ball is powered by a scoring defense that was first in scoring touchdowns off of turnovers and second in takeaways.

The main reason for all of the turnovers was an explosive and quick reacting secondary. They bolstered the backfield with the draft and by resigning Darren Sharper. Defensive coordinator Greg Williams is all set in the secondary, but has his work cut out for him in other areas.

Charles Grant is gone and although he was hurt, he was still a force to be dealt with on the line. Will Smith needs a compliment and the Saints brought in Alex Brown and hope to get help from draft picks. Someone will need to step up if the Saints want to pressure opposing quarterbacks.

Scott Fujita left in free agency but he is not the answer to some of the issues the Saints have at linebacker. Jonathan Vilma is a bright spot but he can’t do it alone. The Saints linebackers are not very quick and have trouble tackling in the open field. They respond well to the blitz schemes that Williams implements but they were the reason that the defense surrendered so many yards.

If the defense can’t pressure the quarterback the secondary will be vulnerable to a balanced offensive team. The Saints defense will be hard pressed to repeat the turnover performance from a year ago and this will be the Achilles heel of this team.

2010 Final Prediction

The Saints will be a top notch team once again in 2010.

The burden of being defending champions will be hard to handle. Every team they face will raise their level of play when the Saints come to town. This could lead to some unsuspecting losses on a competitive schedule.

Gregg Williams will need to find a pass rusher on the front line and try to reproduce the successful scoring defense from a year ago. The Falcons provide some stiff competition for the crown in the South and the Saints will fall short of a division title. They will still make the playoffs and anything can happen when this team is on the field in the post season.

2009 Recap: The Falcons registered a 9-7 record in 2009 which is impressive considering they faced one of the toughest schedules in the league.  It was the first time in franchise history that the Falcons posted back to back winning seasons and that has the team, and its fans optimistic about 2010.

Draft: The Falcons drafted admirably this year, filling holes on defense with players that are ready to play at the next level.

The number one pick, Sean Weatherspoon, is slated to start in his first year and make an immediate impact at the linebacker position. Defensive Tackle Corey Peters will add depth to a defense that struggled last year and the remaining picks have a shot of staying with the Falcons for a long time.

Key Personnel Change:

In 2009 the Falcons ranked near the bottom in the league in terms of passing yards allowed, and set out to fix that problem in the free agency market. This is an area the Falcons need to improve on if they want to compete with the pass happy offense of the New Orleans Saints.

Enter cornerback Dunta Robinson.

Robinson is a shutdown corner that will automatically improve a pass defense that struggled against passing offenses. He will step in as a starter and a leader in the secondary and was a great signing for the Falcons.

Atlanta Falcon Offense

Can Atlanta go to the Superbowl in 2010?

The strength of this Atlanta Falcon team is the offense.

In just his third year, Matt Ryan is quickly becoming known as one of the better signal callers in the league. He is accompanied by a stall full of elite weapons.

Michael Turner is a workhorse running back capable of getting the tough yards or breaking one for a big gain. Jerious Norwood gives the Falcons depth in the backfield and provides them with a quick and agile alternative to Turner.

With three straight seasons of 80 or more catches and 1,100 or more yards, Roddy White has emerged as a top ten wide receiver, and Tony Gonzalez offers veteran leadership in the huddle and is a big target at the tight end position.

If all of the key pieces are healthy, the offense can score against any defense in the league.

Atlanta Falcons Defense

The defense is the X-factor for the Falcons and its improvement may be the difference in the number of wins the team ends up with.

Free agent Dunta Robinson is an instant upgrade in a suspect secondary. Robinson will line up on the other side across from last year’s interception leader, Brent Grimes. Robinson has a unique ability to shadow a receiver and that will free up other personnel to attack the offense in other areas, most notably the pass rush.

Jonathan Babineaux is a solid pass rusher but will need resurgence from veteran John Abraham in order to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Peria Jerry returns from injury and will bolster the front line along with draft pick, Corey Peters. The front line will benefit from an improving linebacker core.

Curtis Lofton mans the middle f the defense and he will get help in coverage from first-rounder, Sean Weatherspoon. All three defensive units will complement one another very well. The Falcons finally have the personnel on defense to make serious strides this year.

The Chargers won the AFC West and made the playoffs, but were upset by the upstart Jets and collapsed in the playoffs. In fact it is amazing to note that the Chargers are a mainstay in the NFL playoffs but have a stigma that they cannot win the Superbowl. Norv Turner and Phillip Rivers will have to get at least one ring if they hope to shake that reputation. In the offseason they released LaDainian Tomlinson, but should still have one of the better offenses in the league. The window on this Charger team is closing quick and if they don’t win a superbowl soon it could be shut for a very long time.

New Orleans Saints
Odds to win Superbowl XLV: 9 to 1
The Saints shocked the football world last year by bringing a championship to New Orleans. Drew Brees led one of the most explosive offenses in football and he is back to try it again. In fact with the exception of linebacker Scott Fujita, the Saints return all the major players from the championship team. This Saints will be hard to beat but this year everyone will be gunning to knock off the defending Superbowl champions. In this day and age it is just too hard to repeat as champions in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys
Odds to win Superbowl XLV: 10 to 1
This year Dallas will host Superbowl XLV and nothing would make them happier than if the Cowboys were playing in it. Jerry Jones has assembled a team that is very capable of winning the superbowl. The Cowboys offense improved in the offseason when they drafted superstar wideout, Dez Bryant out of Oklahoma St. This with the combination of Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice in the backfield makes the Cowboys one of the best offensive teams in the league. If the defense can shut down some of the powerful NFC offenses the Cowboys could be playing for a ring in January.

New York Jets
Odds to win Superbowl XLV: 12-1
The Jets surprised all of the experts last year and made a late run in the season and vaulted into the playoffs. With a rookie quarterback, strong running game, and tough defense the Jets came up short of a superbowl appearance. With several improvements in the offseason the Jets looked poised to make another run at the championship game, although not everyone is buying into the hype.

The NFL is gearing up for another exciting season and it will be interesting to see if a front-runner wins it all or another surprise team wins a ring in January.

The Pac-10 has had a very interesting off season that had a little bit of everything to include sanctions, transfers, and a conference shake up.

The biggest news was that the Pac-10 will add two teams after this season as both Utah and Colorado agreed to join the Pac-10. This will give this conference an entirely new look as it heads into the future.

Several of the programs, most notably USC and Oregon, were mired in off season troubles that resulted in punishments from the NCAA and players being removed from the team. It will be interesting to see how these off season changes will affect the Pac-10 as they head into the 2010 football season.

Here are my predictions for the PAC-10 in 2010 and where the teams will finish the in the standings and who will be the eventual champion.

2010 PAC-10 Predictions:

1. Oregon Ducks

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 2.5 to 1

Ducks will win the Pac-10

Like USC, Oregon had their fair share of problems in the off-season. QB Jeremiah Masoli was released from the team for his criminal offenses and star running back LaMichael James received a one game suspension for his involvement. Despite all the off the field issues, Oregon will field a good team that is capable of winning the Pac-10. Head Coach Chip Kelly will have to choose between Nate Costa and Darron Thomas to play quarterback and take over for the departed Masoli. Oregon returns ten starters on the offense to include the entire front line and a handful of playmakers. This offense averaged 412 ypg and 36 ppg, and should do well again this year. The defense is quick and takes advantage of other teams mistakes. The schedule sets up nice and they will get solid quarterback play as the Ducks can make a run for the roses.

2. USC Trojans

USC Trojans are not eligible to win the Pac-10

The Trojans had a tumultuous off-season to say the least. Pete Carroll left after a successful run to coach in the NFL and that may have been the first indication USC was going to be punished by the NCAA. The Trojans hired Lane Kiffin as head coach and then they were slammed with a two-year postseason football ban and lost 10 football scholarships. Recruits started to scramble to get out of their letter of intent and somewhere among the madness the Trojans have to prepare for the upcoming season. QB Matt Barkley is back and the Trojans still managed to have one of the best recruiting classes in the country. They only have 12 returning starters and this team will take a few games to gel under Kiffin, but the schedule favors the Trojans and they should be among the top teams in the Pac-10.

3. Washington Huskies

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 5 to 1

Washington was one of the few Pac-10 teams to actually get good news in the off season. Superstar quarterback Jake locker announced he was coming back to Washington when most people thought he would head to the NFL. Head coach Steve Sarkisian returns 20 players to this team from a year ago. The offense is in place and looks to be deadly again, but the defense will need to improve. The Huskies were ninth in the league in run defense, pass efficiency defense, and scoring defense and if that happens again this year the Huskies won’t compete for the title. Jake Locker and this offense will carry the team and a return to the post season is very likely.

4. Oregon St. Beavers

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 2.5 to 1

Jazquizz Rodgers and his brother James return on offense for the Beavers and they should electrify the field with some highlight reel plays this year. In all the Beavers return 17 players but a lot of the success this year will rest in the hands of sophomore Ryan Katz as he will get the nod at quarterback to start the year. The defense has to step it up this year and improve on a lackluster turnover and sack totals from a year ago. The schedule maker did not do the beavers any favors as they get TCU and Boise St out of conference early in the season. They do get home games against Oregon and USC but this team is not ready to grab a Pac 10 title just yet.

5. Arizona Wildcats

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 5 to 1

The Wildcats return a solid core of superstars on offense led by QB Nick Foles and RB Nate Grigsby. With the offense set, Head Coach Mike Stoops will have some work to do on the defensive side of the ball. The Wildcats lose seven starters, two on the inside, the entire linebacker core, and a pair of all-star defensive backs. Ricky Elmore returns after notching 10.5 sacks a year ago but if he doesn’t get any help the Wildcats could be looking at a very long season in 2010. The schedule provides a tough out of conference match up against Iowa and the Cats look as though they will finish in the middle of the pack this year.

6. Stanford Cardinal

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 8 to 1

Jim Harbaugh has turned the Stanford football program into a respectable team capable of playing with some of the best teams in the country. QB Andrew Luck returns to lead a talented offense that brings back eight starters from a year ago. With RB Toby Gerhart headed to the NFL, Stanford will pass the ball more and showcase Luck at the helm. The problem is the defense that allowed 402.7 YPG and 26.5 PPG last season. The defensive unit finished ninth in Pac-10 total defense and will have to fill some holes to compete this year. Stanford will not fly under the radar like they have in years past and that will make it tough for them to finish at the top of the Pac-10.

7. UCLA Bruins

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 3.5 to 1

Rick Neuheisel has the UCLA fan base excited about 2010 after the 7-6 finish from a year ago. The Bruins looked solid on defense last year but had big problems moving the ball on the ground. The Bruins averaged just 114.6 RYPG last year which ranked 97th in the nation. QB Kevin Prince returns for the Bruins and he is joined by the top rusher Johnathan Franklin, top receivers Nelson Rosario and Taylor Embree, and his complete offensive line. Consistency is good on offense and that will lead to an improvement in the win column by this team. They have been straddled with a killer out of conference schedule as they face Kansas St, Houston and Texas. An eight win season is not out of the question for the Bruins but it will be close.

8. California Bears

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 8 to 1

The Bears should not be overlooked in the Pac-10 due to a dynamic offense. The Bears bring back third-year starting QB Kevin Riley, up-and-coming megastar Shane Vereen, leading receiver Marvin Jones, and nearly the entire offensive line. The problem is on defense as the bears got torched on a regular basis last year especially through the air. If the secondary does not show improvement the quarterbacks of the Pac-10 will feast on this Bear team. If young players step up on defense the Bears will compete and upset some quality teams that may looks past them. A middle of the pack finish is likely for California in 2010.

9. Arizona St Sun Devils

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 12 to 1

The Sun Devils have plenty of work to do this year as they return the least amount of players in the Pac-10 with just ten players coming back. Head coach Dennis Erickson hired Noel Mazzone to call the shots on offense but he will have his work cut out for him to improve on the dismal 22.3 PPG that this offense averaged. The coaching staff is putting in a spread offense but without the players to execute it the offense will need help from the defense. The Sun Devils defense was a birght spot last year as they averaged 297.6 YPG and 21.1 PPG. Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in MLB Vontaze Burfict, returns to lead this defense but he will not be able to do it alone. The Sun Devils are in a rebuilding year and the final record should reflect that as the Sun Devils will battle to stay out of the basement in the Pac-10.

10. Washington St Cougars

Odds to win the PAC-10 are 25 to 1

Things are looking pretty grim for Washington St in 2010. They were winless in the Pac-10 last year and are just 3-22 in the last two years. They return 18 players from a year ago but that may not matter considering they had the worst offense and defense in the league. QB Jeff Tuel was the lone bright spot for this team last year before getting injured. This team is not ready to compete yet in the Pac-10 and a last place finish is more than likely for the Cougars.

The PAC-10 should provide some entertaining football for this season and it will be interesting to see how the season unfolds.

Here are my predictions for the ACC in 2010 and where the teams will finish the in the standings and who will be the eventual champion.

ACC Atlantic Predictions:

1. Florida St Seminoles

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Atlantic are 1.25 to 1

Will Ponder lead the Noles to a ACC Title?

The Jimbo Fisher era begins in Florida as he replaces Bobby Bowden. Don’t expect too much transition as it has been known for years that Fisher would take over.  On offense the Noles return a bounty of talent led by quarterback Christian Ponder and an offensive line that returns a group that are one of the top in the country. On offense the Seminoles will be explosive and will be hard to contain. The defense is another matter, as they finished last season 108th nationally in total defense. Mark Stoops was called in as defensive coordinator to try and help a defense that was abused all season long. If the defense can adjust to the new scheme that will be employed this year the Noles will be in contention for the ACC title. If not, the offense will be asked to win games to keep Florida St on top in the ACC Atlantic.

2. Boston College Eagles

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Atlantic are 3 to 1

Win or lose this year, the feel good story of the ACC will be the return of Mark Herzlich to the Boston College defense. The 2008 ACC Defensive Player fought a battle with cancer last year and now returns to reinforce the Eagles defense. The Eagles have some quality starters returning on defense and will have one of the better linebacker cores in the country. On offense, Dave Shinskie returns to try and improve an offense that was inconsistent and played poorly. BC will surprise this year and finish at the top of the Atlantic mainly due to an improved defense and soft schedule.

3. Clemson Tigers

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Atlantic are 2.5 to 1

Clemson looks to keep the good fortune they experienced in 2009 when they represented the ACC in a BCS bowl game. The offense takes a hit as explosive running back C.J. Spiller is now in the NFL, but they should still put up a formidable attack. The big question will be if Kyle Parker will play football or baseball. If they lose him at quarterback it could be a tough transition for the tigers. With a tough road schedule against the likes of Auburn, Florida St, North Carolina, and Boston College don’t look for Clemson to repeat this year.

4. North Carolina St Wolfpack

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Atlantic are 7 to 1

QB Russell Wilson is a bright spot for this team and will return to air it out on offense, but the main problem, for the Wolfpack will be a defense that lost all its starters up front. Tom O’Brien will get the most out of his players but with a difficult road schedule that ends with three out of the last four games on the road the Wolfpack will have trouble competing in the ACC.

5. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Atlantic are 10 to 1

Look for a turbulent season of transition for the Demon Deacons. After starting four years at Wake, Riley Skinner is gone at quarterback and so are three starters on the offensive line. The team is looking to return to an option offense and with a struggling defense look for Wake to finish at the bottom of the ACC Atlantic standings.

6. Maryland Terrapins

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Atlantic are 12 to 1

Maryland should be much better than the team that had just two wins from a year ago. Last year Maryland had one of the worst offensives in the ACC and the first step will be to replace losses on the offensive line. The defense is suspect and without too much talent Maryland will be a bottom feeder in the ACC once again. With little to no improvement by the Terps it could be the last year for Ralph Friedgen as head coach.

ACC Coastal Predictions:

1. Miami Hurricanes

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Coastal are 1.25 to 1

Jacory Harris leads the Hurricanes on offense and showed last year that he could lead this team against some tough opposition. The strength of this team is on defense and the Canes are quick, strong and very deep in nearly every position as they return nine starters from a year ago. This defense was ranked 29th nationally in total defense and will be a force in the ACC once again. The early part of the schedule is demanding with three straight road games against Ohio St, Pittsburgh and Clemson, but they get ACC Coastal rivals Virginia Tech and North Carolina at home. The revenge game against the Hokies will be the game that decides the Coastal division. Miami gets revenge and the title in 2010.

2. North Carolina Tar Heels

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Coastal are 3 to 1

Head coach Butch Davis, enters his fourth season with the Heels and 2010 has the potential to be his best. He returns almost every starter from a year ago and is stocked with talent on both sides of the ball, especially the defense. This defense has six All-Conference selections and many of them could have went pro last year but decided to stay based on the potential of the 2010 season, to include OLB Bruce Carter, DT Marvin Austin and LB Quan Sturdivant. The offensive unit is where the Heels struggle. Senior TJ Yates leads the way at quarterback but was turnover prone last year. If he struggles again look for redshirt freshmen Bryn Renner to get the call. The schedule is unforgiving this year for the Heels and will be too tough to overcome to get a title, but they look to be a factor in the ACC in 2010.

3. Virginia Tech Hokies

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Coastal are 2 to 1

The Hokies will return eight starters to include Heisman hopeful Tyrod Taylor, who will lead the team at quarterback. He has a deadly combination of passing and running that is tough for other teams to defend. The backfield is one of the most talented in the country with the dynamic duo of Ryan Williams and Derrick Evans. Frank Beamer is known for a coach that employs an opportune defense and an aggressive special teams unit known as “Beamer Ball”. This year could be a tough adjustment for Beamer as he only returns four starters on defense and has to replace his place kicker and his punter. The end of the schedule is unkind to the Hokies and that will be the only thing keeping them from an ACC Coastal title.

4. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Coastal are 5 to 1

Paul Johnson has worked wonders with the Yellow Jackets and made them into ACC and BCS contenders. He returns 18 starters from an outstanding 2010 squad to include dual threat quarterback Josh Nesbitt. The offense will miss Jonathan Dwyer who will be suiting up in the NFL next year but they have plenty of depth to fill the void as senior running back Anthony Allen will take over. The real key will be getting the offensive line patched up as they just return two starters from last year. On defense it will be impossible to replace defensive end Derrick Morgan but Paul Johnson can make his defense look good with his ball control offense. A late schedule to end the season and a new offensive line will prevent GT from winning the ACC Coastal.

5. Duke Blue Devils

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Coastal are 10 to 1

David Cutcliffe is bringing this football program so respectability in the ACC. The Blue Devils return 16 starters from a team that won three games in conference last year. They managed to finish out of last place in 2009 and that is what they should aim for again in 2010. The ACC Coastal is way too talented for Duke to hang around with any of the top tier teams, pulling off an upset or staying out of last place would be a good goal to shoot for.

6. Virginia Cavaliers

Odds to win the ACC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the ACCC Coastal are 8 to 1

It’s going to be a long year for the Cavaliers. They are in a rebuilding mode of sorts and will look to get headed in the right direction. With just three wins from a year ago the Cavaliers will be lucky to match that total in 2010. They had the worst offense in the ACC last year and face a tough schedule this year. They are on the road against USC and grab the top talent from the ACC Atlantic. The game against Duke on November 6^th could decide who finishes last in the ACC coastal.

SEC West Predictions:

1. Arkansas Razorbacks

Odds to win the SEC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the SEC West are 3 to 1

Mallett has the Hogs ready to win the West!

The Hogs return nine starters on an offense that was the highest scoring in the SEC last year. Bobby Petrino will run his high octane offense with the help of quarterback Ryan Mallett who is considered to be in the running for the Heisman trophy already. His weapons will be back in place and the Hogs will be able to score with anyone in the country but the problem may be on defense. The Hogs struggled on defense last year but return seven starters and if they show improvement the Hogs will fight for the West title. They host Alabama early in the season in what could be the most important game of the season. The Hogs will win that game and that will lead to the SEC West title.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

Odds to win the SEC are 1 to 1

Odds to win the SEC West are 2/5

The National Champions are ready to defend their title. They return eight players on offense and that includes a devastating backfield combination of Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and sophomore Trent Richardson, along with quarterback Greg McElroy. On defense the Tide returns just two starters from one of the best defenses in the country, but that won’t stop Nick Saban from reloading. Dre Kirkpatrick will emerge as a defensive stopper and make plays from day one. The tide has a very tough schedule and will have a huge target on their back. They fall just short of returning to the title game.

3. Auburn Tigers

Odds to win the SEC are 5 to 1

Odds to win the SEC West are 4.5 to 1

Head coach Gene Chizik will have the Auburn Tigers ready to play and challenge for the SEC West title in 2010. Auburn will return 16 starters in all to include four out of five offensive linemen and the talented backfield of Ben Tate and Onterrio McCalebb. Cameron Newton transfers in at quarterback and the Auburn offense will be tough to deal with in the West. The defense could be in trouble as they allowed the most points per game in the SEC last year. That will be the only thing that will keep them from contending for the title this year.

4. LSU Tigers

Odds to win the SEC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the SEC West are 4.5 to 1

LSU is a powerhouse in the SEC but as the competition gets tougher in the west they will find it harder to keep up. Jordan Jefferson returns at quarterback, but if the Tigers are going to succeed they need to have him play consistent and mistake free. Last year, mental lapses cost the Tigers a few wins and with a tougher schedule this year they can’t afford those types of mistakes. The schedule is a brutal one for LSU, as they go on the road to face Auburn, Florida, Arkansas and North Carolina. LSU returns just four starters on defense, but have enough depth and talent to compete in the west.

5. Mississippi Rebels

Odds to win the SEC are 33 to 1

Odds to win the SEC West are 15 to 1

Houston Nutt is a good coach but he will have to be a miracle worker to make Ole Miss a winner this year. Dexter McCluster and Jevan Snead are gone and this team returns just 11 starters in total from last year’s squad. Jerrell Powe returns at nose tackle to lead a defense that ranked in the top 25 in defense. This team still has room to grow and will spend this year at the bottom of the SEC West.

6. Mississippi St Bulldogs

Odds to win the SEC are 50 to 1

Odds to win the SEC West are 12 to 1

It will be another long season for the Bulldogs of Mississippi St. They are just not talented enough to compete in the SEC West. Dan Mullen is doing his best at head coach, but it will take some time to find the right pieces that fit. They will have a better team than in recent years but are still not ready to make a move in the SEC.

SEC East Predictions:

1. Florida Gators

Odds to win the SEC are 2.5 to 1

Odds to win the SEC East are 1.25 to 1

The big story in Florida this year will be the loss of Tim Tebow to the NFL and how his replacement, John Brantley will fare in his place. Brantley is a precision passer that will be able to extend the field and score often with his deadly accuracy. The Gators offense will be fine but the defense will have to reload from a season ago. DE Carlos Dunlap, LB Brandon Spikes, and big-play CB Joe Haden are all gone and those are some big shoes to fill. Urban Meyer has never had a problem recruiting and the Gators make take some time to gel on defense but they will still be one of the best in the SEC.

2. South Carolina Gamecocks

Odds to win the SEC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the SEC East are 3 to 1

Steve Spurrier returns eight starters on offense to include talented quarterback Stephen Garcia. For Garcia to have a great season he will need help upfront from an offensive line that surrendered the most sacks in the SEC. The Gamecocks return seven starters on a defense that ranked in the top 20 nationally in total defense.  The key game will be at Florida and this could be the game that makes or breaks the season for the Gamecocks.

3. Georgia Bulldogs

Odds to win the SEC are 6.5 to 1

Odds to win the SEC East are 3 to 1

Georgia returns 18 starters to the 2010 team and will be ready to compete for the SEC title. Mark Richt brings in a new defensive scheme as the Dawgs will play a 3-4 this year and he has assembled a coaching staff to make the transition easier. The only question mark may be at the quarterback position. Redshirt freshman Aaron Murray will get the nod and if he can excel, the Dawgs will be a team to fear in 2010. They finished last year winning four out of five and that will bring some high expectations to Georgia for this year.

4. Kentucky Wildcats

Odds to win the SEC are 30 to 1

Odds to win the SEC East are 10 to 1

Joker Phillips takes over as head coach in Lexington and he will have some work to do to make the Wildcats contenders. Kentucky returns just five starters on offensive and will have to replace four offensive linemen. The Wildcats struggled on offense and defense and not much should change in 2010. The Wildcats will have their streak of four straight bowl games snapped this year.

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Odds to win the SEC are 8 to 1

Odds to win the SEC East are 4 to 1

Derek Dooley takes over at Tennessee for a team that is in serious transition. The Vols lost a ton of talent in the off-season and bring back just four players from a lackluster offense. Lane Kiffin bolted for USC and the Vols will need a few years before they can realistically challenge for the SEC title. The Vols were given one of the tougher schedules in the SEC and will struggle to finish above .500.

6. Vanderbilt Commodores

Odds to win the SEC are 100 to 1

Odds to win the SEC East are 25 to 1

Vanderbilt returns just 11 starters from a team that stumbled in conference play last year. The good news is they should improve on offense as they were ranked 110^th in the country last year. Jordan Rogers comes in at quarterback as a JUCO transfer, and running back Warren Norman returns as the biggest playmaker on offense. Vanderbilt will have some good games throughout the year, but will battle for the bottom of the SEC East.
